How to Choose a Neodymium Magnet Manufacturer
Choose an NdFeB manufacturer by the evidence it can connect to your released requirement: material and process route, drawing review, magnetization, coating, samples, dimensional and magnetic inspection, traceability, change control, communication, capacity planning and comparable commercial assumptions. Start with the project, not a manufacturer ranking
A supplier cannot be judged in the abstract. 1. Test the quality of the drawing review
A strong supplier does more than acknowledge a file. It identifies critical dimensions and datums, ambiguous coating state, edge conditions, magnetization reference, inspection method, assembly interfaces, use temperature and missing acceptance criteria. The supplier should distinguish what is quoted, what is assumed and what still requires approval.

2. Confirm the material and manufacturing route
“N42 neodymium magnet” is not a complete supply specification. Confirm the grade and coercivity family, sintered or bonded route, orientation, coating, dimensions, magnetization state and any secondary operations. For bonded NdFeB, identify injection molding or compression bonding and the proposed compound or binder family.
Ask the supplier to explain how the route fits the geometry, temperature, magnetic circuit, environment and volume. Do not infer in-house capability from a website category; request the actual route and responsibility for the quoted part.
3. Review samples as an evidence package
A sample is useful only when it is tied to a revision, material, process state, magnetization, coating and inspection method. Define whether the sample is a feasibility piece, appearance sample, dimensional sample, magnetic sample, functional prototype or production-intent approval part.
Record which deviations are temporary and which are representative of series production. If the final tool, coating, magnetization fixture or inspection fixture is not used, the sample cannot automatically approve those later stages.
4. Make inspection methods comparable
Ask how the supplier will measure critical dimensions, geometry, coating, polarity, pole position, field or flux. The drawing datum, finished part state, measurement fixture, test distance and acceptance rule must match the report. An equipment name alone does not establish method suitability.

5. Verify traceability and change control
Traceability should connect the delivered lot to the agreed material, drawing revision, process route, inspection records and nonconformance decisions. The required depth depends on the product and industry, but it should be defined rather than assumed.
Agree which changes require notification or approval: raw material or compound, grade source, coating process, tooling, subcontractor, magnetization fixture, inspection method, manufacturing location, packaging or process parameters that affect the released requirement.
6. Evaluate communication with real technical questions
Response speed matters, but response quality matters more. Use a controlled question set and compare whether each supplier answers the actual issue, states assumptions, identifies risks and preserves revision history. A fast generic answer can create more work later.

- Which dimension or feature creates the highest production risk?
- How will magnetization be physically referenced and inspected?
- Which sample stage represents the final production route?
- What changes trigger customer notification and reapproval?

7. Compare capacity and commercial terms under the same assumptions
Capacity is part-specific. Tooling, batch size, grinding, coating, magnetization, inspection, packaging, forecast stability and yield can change available output. Ask for assumptions and constraints rather than a single annual-capacity number.

Certifications are evidence inputs, not a complete qualification
